About Mercedes

Mercedes Gonzalez, a native New Yorker, has been developing and implementing retail strategies around the globe for over 20 years. Mercedes grew up in fashion, working at her uncle’s apparel manufacturing company in the heart of the NYC garment district. After earning an economics degree from New York University, she went back to work full time with her uncle where she restructured the company and ensured a stronger bottom line. Soon after, Mercedes embarked the fashion industry as a buyer at one of the largest buying offices at the time, Frederick Atkins. She has worked with some of the most important buying offices in the United States, and has helped to open and streamline thousands of stores both nationally and abroad, including the inaugural Sears store inPanama. She’s participated in private label for such stores as Dillard’s and Harvey Nickels of England. In 1998, Mercedes proceeded to establish her own buying office, which currently influences over $100 million in purchasing decisions. She is also owner of her own discount retail store, Just Shop Boutique. Today, GPC is hired to consult and optimize domestic and international businesses in the fashion and retail industry.

Mercedes is praised for having industry know-how and for sharing tricks of the trade that her every day experiences have afforded her in presentations that are realistic and easily comprehensible. She is repeatedly invited to speak at industry-leading US trade shows such as MAGIC and Texworld, as well as internationally in 8 countries- Mexico, Colombia, and India just to name a few. Her career has gained her the opportunity to be a star judge and business advisor on Jamaica’s hit TV show, Mission Catwalk. She also sits on the board at the University of Arkansas and the University of Nebraska.
